Deed of the Red Knight 9

  • 1504 Cameron Line Hastings, ON, K0L 1Y0 Canada (map)

We are very excited to be able to host Red Knight once again and looking forward to having a bigger and event with lots of new faces!

This year will include,

-group fighting scenarios,

-individual fighting,

- competitive archery,

-a market

-and a tavern.

FIGHTING - All fights must be marshalled by an event assigned martial, and we ask that participants be patient with marshals and err on the side of caution in all martial arts events. We are combining our Deed of Alms with our Red knight this year, so we will have a larger array of fighters than normally. There is no need to register for both events, If you register as a fighter for Red Knight, you will automatically be participating in deed of alms. You can read more about that on the Deed of Alms page which is listed as a separate event. We encourage all participants to make a minimum donation of $30 Canadian, which will go to West Neighbourhood house, a community support network in Toronto that supports refugees and the unhoused. You can ask your friends and family for sponsorships or of course, sponsor yourself. Bringing cash donations in person to the event is also fine. You can donate yourself, or get sponsorships through paypal via the Deed of Alms event page.

We will have armoured and unarmoured sparring opportunities.

SAFETY GEAR - There are no historical gear requirements for unarmoured combatants. Modern fencing safety equipment is acceptable. We will do an equipment check before you will be allowed to enter the lists. If you do not have armour, but intend to fight, please register as a man at arms.

Since many of us are still at risk from COVID, we would ask that you stay home if you are sick. People who have to miss the event due to illness will receive a 50 percent return on fees.

Set up will begin, the Morning of Thursday October, 17th and the event will end Sunday the 15th at 2 PM. But there is no rush to get off site.

No cars will be permitted to drive in after Thursday Evening!!! SO be prepared to walk your gear from the parking lot ( which is nearby)

Schedule will be as follows:

Thursday morning. Set up -

Friday morning 7 to 9 am breakfast

Friday morning - 9 am - Muster

Friday morning - Archery tournament

Friday Afternoon - Pay parade and market.

Saturday morning - Deed of alms - Lunch is provided to all fighters.

Saturday afternoon - Group combat scenarios.

Saturday evening - tavern

We will have additional programming on Sunday specific events TBD

Official pack out will be on Monday, though we understand that some may need to leave on Sunday.

FOOD will be organized by mess-group. Please indicate what mess group you are in when registering. If you need help with this say help in the form. Cost for the weekend will vary slightly from mess-group to mess-group and will be managed by individual mess groups.

IT WILL BE COLD - bring all the warm bedding you need to be comfortable sleeping inside a tent, Priority on warmth, don’t worry about historical authenticity.

WORMS - in 2021 we had a rainy evening followed by a bunch of earthworms moving into peoples tents to avoid drowning. People without secured floors and people with bedding on the ground had unpleasant surprises. It is recommended that you strategize around earth worm avoidance, because this could definitely happen again.

TENTS - We expect most people to be sleeping in their own historical tent. We will have a designated space for modern tents a little ways from the medieval camp. If you have discussed borrowing hoplologia tent space please make sure you speak with Aurora directly about this before the event, you can email me at hoplologia@gmail.com

Event is open to Hoplologia members and members of our sister organizations.

All participants are required to pay into company insurance. We haven’t collected dues yet this year so we are wrapping dues into the total cost of the event.

COST - TBD

DOGS - dogs are required to be on leash while in camp, dogs may only be off leash outside the camping are. We appreciate your help in keeping the chaos in the camp to a dull roar.

MARKET - If you wish to vend at the market, please indicate as much on the form. Only historical items are allowed. Space will be limited, so vending space will be first come first serve. If you need a table, you will be expected to provide a historical one.

We will pay people in medieval coin during the market. Pay will be assigned only for attendance at this years Red Knight. To be paid, all members, including non-combatants must be assigned to a lance. You may talk to any Knight in the company about joining their lance. Possible roles include – man at arms, archer, squire, page and cook. If you have no military role, you will be paid as a page unless you are a mess group leader.

PLEASE NOTE - pay parade is FOR FUN to simulate the use of medieval money, and does not reflect anyone’s actual value to the community.

Once you complete the form, and pay, you will be added to our event Facebook group. We appreciate that not everyone likes Facebook but we ask that you join the group and turn the notifications on for now so we can most efficiently communicate with everyone. We will also have a Discord with the same info. But most of our members are on facebook still so if you’re trying to reach everyone you will need to use the Facebook. We may also contact you via email.

All adults must register separately.

Payment is a separate action from filling in the form so please make sure you do both.

Registration will close 2 weeks before the event
