Summary of past year
Chris built tables, cleared paths
High rate of deed of alms
Spring deed: learning experience
Craig: Summarized Sherbrook event, taught class on Marozzo sword+rotella, encouraged to
attend. Captain will be teaching at the next event.
Running our own seminar: “Someday…but not yet.” Dave getting own space may become an
option someday.
Spring deed
Keight: “Extremely wet, muddy, on the edge of cancellation.” Now we know! Still had a fun time
in the mud. Summarzed how the event runs, encouraged future attendance.
Deed of alms summary.
Craig: Raised 3K for refugees and local charities (west neighbhood), very good turnout.
July 26: Mark your calendars, held in Bidford park this year on North side
Excellent gateway event to attract newcomers and those curious about going deeper
RK Summary
Chris Kerr: Gratitude for all supporters and volunteers!
10th anniversary, 68 registered across Ontario and USA. Raised more money than ever before.
Group scenarios were incredibly elaborate and immersive. Jake Fenwick made quite the
impression with his longbow. Feast was well-attended. First implementation of 2025 archery
safety rules went off without hitch. No significant injuries, those with heat complications were
treated and recovered fully.
Weather variation: Blend of cold first night as well as very warm days, emphasizing need for
linen layers and ability to adapt to broader range of temps and precipitation levels.
Camp site: Improvements ongoing, beautiful permanent home. Pumpkins being grown for live
cutting on-site! Then reusing the same seeds eternally.
Corvus school attended: Had a great time, welcome to come back and try sleeping over.
Site maintenance: May do a trip for weedding, blowdowns, and trail maintenance.
Blanket coat project:
Craig: Update on year’s project. We hit over 100 coats this year! Made 32 this year, and 25
mittens. Beginning in October for fundraising, buying fabric, and start getting them out by early
to late December.
Question/offer of support:
How is recruiting going? Are they interested? Do you feel able to support your
guests/newcomers?
Wayne: Potential hits at his school, planning how to support them with show and tell and
reference book loans.
Captain: “Start with a linen gown…everyone looks fine in a linen gown.” With sweatpants, good
transition into first event. Then hosen. From ‘they won’t look hideous’ to full kit slowly.
Keight: Sewing days are helpful to get them in-person.
Spring deed is the ideal entry event. gown is a perfect starter kit. Loaner hoods are worth
their weight in gold. Tee shirts for under garments, no rush on underclothes.
Budget:
1300-1400 in current account. Outside of the Toronto groups, smaller purchases such as cook
pots can be allotted. Back in a position to assist new mess groups with cooking equipment, goal
of easing transition to medieval cooking.
Glen: Has two Rev War era kettles for donation/use.
Officers:
Aurora Simons
Keight Maclean
Chris Kerr
Chris Duffy
Christian Cameron (in absentia)
Open floor:
Questions, suggestions, proposals?
Xander (Master Archer) unable to attend, but will be documenting Clout shoot protocols, bow
inspection, and other parameters for marshals/officers to utilize. No concerns, event can run
without any modifications or precautions.
Fire plan:
Work with Scott ahead on ‘fire plan’ and coordination of inspections versus protocols. Chris
Duffy will lead on fire planning proactively, three months notice starting in June. Fire marshall
was totally fine with 2025, but hurried coordination was stressful. Their requirements were not
realistic for such a small-scale event, given forms often did not apply to this particular event
type.
Scott plans: Outhouses have been built, but holes need to be dug
Porta potties will NOT be placed as far away this year.
Toilet paper officer: Not a joke, we need a point person. Chris Kerr volunteered, remind him if
needed.
Trauma kits: Request for trauma bandages and related kit. Xander will be coordinating with
Chris Kerr on current company-owned kit, and donate trauma equipment that will be sent along
with Chicago folks.
Discord for continued meeting use: Group approves of continued use, no privacy or legal
concerns at this scale.
Christian and Elisabeth send their regrets: Had to address a literal fire within the church.
Everyone is fine.
Weed/trail clearing day in the works, TBD.
Meeting adjourned at 12:53 PM.
Minutes taken by Xander Sobecki.
